Cheryl and Stephen went on a critical joint journey in March 2019, and hit some amazing milestones along the way!

Stephen had needed a kidney transplant for many years. After much investigation his Mum, Cheryl, was chosen as a suitable living related donor. Amazingly this meant two incredible milestones; Stephen was the 100th child recipient from a living donor & the 250th recipient when you include adults!

Needless to say, both mother and son needed time to recuperate after their operations. This is where Ronald McDonald House Glasgow was able to step in and help the family.

Naturally concerned for his wife and son, dad Tommy needed a place to stay. The family are from Musselburgh, so the long commute would have been very tiring for him and also for Cheryl – once discharged from Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Glasgow it would have been a painful daily journey at a time when she needed to recuperate.

Ronald McDonald House Glasgow gift a room to stay in.

Thankfully there was a room at the House and this close-knit family were able to stay together. Tommy was able to do a sterling job of looking after Cheryl and Stephen. Cheryl told us: “We all as a family totally appreciated staying at Ronald McDonald House [Glasgow] for four weeks till our son was allowed home. Such an amazing place & the staff are so friendly & helpful”.

Stephen continues his road to recovery. Everyone here at the House wish him all the very best for a sunny future.
